People are not like, in this trivial political mindset all the time. Like life is just life, you know? It goes on. Our life is still going to be working and trying to survive. It’s like two different worlds — if you immerse yourself in news and politics too much, you’re living in a fucking alternative world.
– Eric S. El Paso, Texas / Juarez
We have done three issues on immigration and migration. When you start hearing the same things over and over, you have to wonder whether you’re asking the right questions to the right people.
The same bureaucratese around immigration policy recycled with every presidency, every campaign, and every debate. The rhetoric, however, remains theoretical, far from the emotional and practical world that exists at the border itself. The border remains more or less the same. As do the rates of migration. Human movement is a fact of life.
The question of how we, as a country, handle this movement remains, because we have hardly ever addressed it seriously. This August looks for more.
