That’s Reagan in 1986. A few years later Clinton comes, Bush follows, and they, in tandem, cement the responsibility of private institutions to solve our problems.
Three decades later, the U.S. had a year of immense giving. American individuals, foundations, and corporations donated $449.64 billion in 2019. A country full of problems, in desperate need of money to fix them, turned to private patronage.
This year, it seems, government is the headliner. If decades of anti-government rhetoric and policy gave us the present, we are curious to see where an active government might take us.
